Another fantastic day for educators in Maine!  The Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education (MCEE)  honored several outstanding leaders in Maine education today at the Harraseeket Inn, in Freeport.  Some of the people being honored were the teachers who received their National Board Certification (one of them is a long-time colleague and friend, Sally Plourde), a surprise award to Westbrook’s Superintendent, Stan Sawyer, for his continued support and involvement in the Maine Teacher of the Year process (my wonderful boss), the Milken Recipient (who happens to be my dear friend, Michelle Gagne), all of the 2009 Maine Teacher of the Year Regional and State Finalists (who also have become very special friends that I admire deeply) and the Maine Teacher of the Year…me.

We were all treated to an exquisite meal, we listened to exceptional speakers, and were gifted a personalized pen.  One of the many treats of receiving the Maine Teacher of the Year Award is being asked to be on the MCEE Board of Directors.   As an educator, I am so grateful for this opportunity to be able to represent the teachers across this state while working along side many influential and dedicated business owners and people highly regarded in education.  I only wish that all teachers could experience this…it is heart-warming.

Thank you MCEE for honoring educators and supporting us for the betterment of our Maine students.  I am honored to be a member of your board.
